Story

Hello friends and family,

I’m fundraising for Australian Red Cross.

Krishan and Hela (K&H) have a shared vision of changing the world one step at a time, one good gesture at a time. K&H have had very different journeys and experiences that shaped them to who they are, and yet meeting each other has once again shaped their future journey and experience.

Since meeting one another K&H have found a passion for supporting not for profits and giving back to society, have joined the NSW Rural Fire Services, have engaged in charity events and have personally been inspired by one another to continue growing as individuals pushing each other to build on existing strengths, and create new memories and experiences through adventure and of course lots of hiking! K&H have committed to completing a 50km hike in August in support of the Red Cross.

Krishan's "Why" on Fundraising for Red Cross,

Life throws you some unexpected cards, some good, some bad, and some might say "Almost kills you". This was exactly the case for me come January 26th 2017, where I was involved in a head on collision with a truck on the Oxley Hwy while riding my Motorbike.

Dying on the side of the Hwy with only 20-30 mins of life left, in the middle of absolute nowhere with no cell phone reception, no hospital, and no sign of help. Somehow, somewhere, SOMEONE sent me a Guardian Angel in the form of an Orthopaedic Surgeon named Max.

Max some how managed to re-break my legs back into place, stop the bleeding from my Femoral Artery, stabilize my vitals and regain acceptable pulse levels whilst I remained awake through the entire procedure enduring tremendous amount of pain. But I knew this needed to be done, with no pain management in order to save my life.

No amount of words can EVER express the sincere appreciation and gratitude I have for Max and his Family for even stopping to check my status let alone save my life. The world needs more people like Max and his family and I will forever be in your debt. Furthermore to the miracle that was the impossible, i needed to have a blood injection due to the amount of blood i had lost. This was only feasible because of all of the Good Blood donors out there donating to Red Cross. I am equally so grateful for such selfless humans out there that helped keep me on this planet.

However, my story is insignificant to what is happening around the world where kids and family's are left with no food, shelter or basic needs to survive. Who am I to be blind pretending not to see their needs.
We need to do more, and if the world will not do it.... I WILL.

RedCross gives me the ability to be able to reach these homes and family's living in poverty all around the planet and in doing so, I have discovered that I CAN make a difference to kids and family's on the other side of the Globe. One person can make a difference and it is instilled in each and every one of us. We just need to be able to see it.

Before my time is done on this planet, if I can inspire just one person to reach their potential and help the less fortunate and go the distance far beyond what they once thought was "impossible". Then maybe i can enlighten and inspire others to see what they are truly capable of.

Be the change you wish to see in the world... You are what you repeatedly do, therefor excellence should be a habit and not an act.

Even with my condition, with my metal legs, my 1 year of rehabilitation, relearning how to walk and going through all the pain, physically and mentally.....
I can stand here today and say... I CAN make a difference, I CAN go the distance......
What can you do?

Hela's "Why" On Fundraising for Red Cross,

My why, Hela Hercules Ebrahimi. I always lived life with a sense of fear. I was afraid of feeling fear, I avoided it at all costs. Fear of judgement and not conforming to social rules and expectations, fear of disappointing others, fear of taking any risks regardless of what the reward could be. I was a people pleaser who didn’t look after the most important person in the equation. Me. How then could I have ever been real to anything outside of me. I couldn’t.

About 5 years ago, I married a man I never should have married- a secret not many people know, but I walked down that aisle saying to myself... think of the bigger picture. The bigger picture being, if I marry him and then divorce him ‘I’ll be ruined’ then maybe I can finally move out of home and already be a huge shame to society, so therefore I could start living for me. So unhealthy right! ? but that was my mental state. I’m not proud of it. 2 years of enduring countless dramas, I had hit rock bottom, both mentally and physically. I did not know myself at all, I was the heaviest I have ever been and my anxiety levels on the daily was so bad, I was thinking ending my life was a better outcome than to live.

I was super lucky to have some amazing people in my life at that moment, and so many I met in the months after that truly supported me, helped me to see that life is beautiful. The one thing I am so super proud of myself is that I came out of this, stronger than ever. That I practice self love and mindfulness on the daily, I am still me, the person who loves to give back and to some extent very much a people pleaser. But a healthy version, I give and love because it’s healthy to do so and gives me so much happiness, but I don’t compromise on me.

It embarrasses me to an extent to share this story, it embarrasses me that despite always having a roof over my head, education, a job all the luxuries that we are blessed to have, I let first world problems bring me down so much. But I also acknowledge I am a human with a huge heart, and that maybe I needed to go through this to be who I am today. And I am proud of who I am today, I don’t ever want to disappoint my loved ones who care for me so very purely, and who I equally love and respect so dearly for believing in me and inspiring me, for holding my hand as support - and I will do everything in my power to be Hela Hercules v2.0 and leave 1.0 in the past! I’m hoping we can make but a small change to the life of others by doing the the 50km hike and as much as we can for Red Cross.

Next goal is to actually get out there in the field to help people who truly need our help!!!

Any donation that you can make to our fundraising page is hugely appreciated. I would also really appreciate it if you could share our Facebook page (below) so more people know about it.

    Australian Red Cross
Australian Red Cross is committed to helping vulnerable people across Australia and the region. Our work is focused on improving lives and reducing vulnerability: from reconnecting families and finding out the fate of loved ones torn apart by war and disaster, to providing a reliable phone call to elderly Australians who are lonely and isolated. And when disaster strikes around the country, we are among the first to arrive and the last to leave. Red Cross believes that mobilising the power of humanity can make a real difference to those in need. We invite you to join Red Cross and play a part in making the world a better place.
